9/10/09 Last Minute Madness
Once again I've realised I left putting up dates for my next shows at the last minute, here I thought I was getting organised!
Anyway, tomorrow will be the premiere of Animania, a small one day convention held in junction with the OzAsia Festival in adelaide. It will be at the Adelaide Festival Centre from 11am to 5pm, come down for your fix of anime and gaming and crazy artists!
More details at: http://animania.net.au/2009/
And a weeks time we'll be flying off to Melbourne for Armageddon! I can't believe I was gonna miss it this year, but I'm looking forward to it so much now! Come say hi
Anyway, I have a stall kit to pack, a badge maker to pick up and find some pocky money Hope you're all enjoying the sunshine!
9/9/09 Portrait Specials
Hi everyone,
Due to my job falling through shortly, and a trip to the Melbourne Armageddon convention already booked, I thought I'd present a special offer. My goal is if i can make the money left that it will cost for the trip to Melbourne, any profits I make will be able to go toward paying off my debits, quite possibley completely.
So the deal is if you send me a photo of yourself I will do a digital colour portrait painting of you and send you the high resolution file so you can print it at your leisure for $25.
I will do couples for $35, and if you are interested in any more people included into an artwork send me a message and we can work something out.
Check out my Commissions page for some examples.
I hope this interests some of you :D I will be doing this up to 0ctober the 7th.
Peace out, Anthea
25/8/09 That Time of Year for Rain Again
Once again I'm in the art room, cutting bookmarks for the Gawler Show and low and behold - forecast of rain! Not just any rain, for those of you in the Adelaide surrounding region, Mother Nature has been entertaining herself with wild winds, and sporadic storms. Nice to know winter hasn't left us yet :)
But don't let that put you off the Gawler Show, a great all round family event and warm up of course to the Royal Show itself. Difference being, Emerson and I won't be at the Royal Show :P...well I will be, but I'll be watching the dogs.
After the Gawler Show, there is forecast for a month of calm before the excitement of Armageddon Melbourne - for which we are officially booked yay! Oh and Animania the weekend before. I'll find the dates and add them here later.
In other news, I'll looking to go back to study, living in the real world was too weird....
And just in case! A shout out to my cousins Jai (whoes friends at school didn't believe his cousin did artwork) and Grace (who just turned 14 - the 'art' is strong with this one)
Peace out X
27/7/09 Triumphant Return from Avconia
So, John and I dragged ourselves back up the hill to get home last night, and today I'm wrapped happily in my dressing gown replying to people who sent me emails after AVCon.
First things first, I think AVCon did a really great thing this year pulling off the convention at the Adelaide Convention Centre, rumour has it that the con pulled in more than double its usual crowds, and it just looked fantastic. Look out Interstate Conventions! Adelaide is going to be on the map!
A major new thing for me this year was, with myself, Surya (AVCon Poster Artist) and Andrew (Studio Kagato), presenting both days on the fundimentals of drawing and a basics of digital art programs. I was very nervous as it was mostly a last minute job, but I had great fun answering questions after and even doing another demonstration for another avid learner.
Also got in contact with one of the lovely ladies who does the podcasts for women talking about sci-fi (I'll add the website to my links later) who convinced me to head over the Armageddon in Melbourne again this year. How? She told me Farscape actors would be there.
So thanks again to everyone who supported me through AVcon this year, my most organised event I've done since I started touring.
And look out next year for Miss Moira, she's aiming to put together a stall of her amazing costumes.
7/7/09 Tropical Respite
Well after finally having this site I've neglected it for a while. Though I have been on a tropical island lol. Just came home from visiting the family on Christmas Island, which is an absolutely stunning little corner of the world. On the way home I took my brother to Supanova in Perth. This was my first time standing in LINE!!! I missed my stall badges. But we had a great time, said hi to Paul Spencer, our friend from Supanova Melbourne, who was on his home ground this time. I got my Watchmen book signed by the artist himself Dave Gibbons - got a little star struck.
I've come home with a new enthusiasm for painting, starting with a little picture for my friend Miss Moira for her birthday. I'm going to make a new folder of sketches so I can show these little things off.
Also rediscovered the comic applegeeks - www.applegeeks.com. Fantastic read for computer nerds.
Gencon has been put on hold, I have no idea whether I can afford to make it up there, but we have some very kind offers of accomodation that will help.
AVcon in 3 weeks! Im excited to be in the new venue, and surprise surprise, a new event is coming to Adelaide - Ozmania, which I think I'll put my name down on.
Anyway that was a long update :P Time for a lunch break.
1/6/09 Gallery Complete
Bring out the party streamers! Thanks to the wonderful work of Matt from Digital Arts Front, the gallery is up and running. So I now say this website is functional and as complete is it'll be until I scrap it all and start again! Only joking thats too much work.
Well I'm off to book our space at Gen Con OZ 09, hope to see some friendly faces there.
I also have a few work in progress pictures to upload soon.
23/5/09 Website Launch
Well Gee and I hope to launch this website today, bar computer failure, internet crashing and hellfire apocolypse....should work.
Also coming up, the next event I'll be taking my work to will of course be AVCon at the Adelaide Convention Centre, hope to see all you regulars there. 25-26th of July - www.avcon.org.au
Before then I'll be out of town a bit. John and I are going to a Warhammer Tournament - TerraCon on 6th and 7th of June in Narracorte, so all my painting at the moment is away from my computer. Then I'll be visiting my family in Christams Island. Long trip....hopefully I'll do lots of pictures of fairy ninjas riding crabs.
2/5/09 - 3/5/09 Gumeracha Medieval Faire
Well, Gumeracha was amazing! It was cold, we got drunk, all my cups got used by someone else and I got a cut up lemonade bottle. Someone dislocated an arm at 2am and almost knocked all my easels on me while I was sleeping. I drew for two days in a corset...what else...oh there was fire twirling, while drinking mead, and horses and my favourite fighters kicking arse and making me want to try and re-join the NVG. Catching up with much missed friends. AND paying off all my bills! What more could you want! I love the medieval faire.
27/3/09 - 29/3/09 Supanova
Well, this was the third trip to Melbourne for John and I, and it was quite enjoyable. We got to visit the Melbourne Convention Centre, after a few issues with trying to find the tram stops, we got set up okay. Had a great time with Paul Spencer sitting next to us, check out his comic at http://www.guardiancomics.com/.
Was mightly disappointed that I missed out on seeing Moreena Baccarin from Firefly, and the Buffy Stars only went to Brisbane. But I got to get signatures from Jhonen Vasquez thanks to John waiting in line while I drew portraits.
Mind you, maybe the Singstar setup could have been further away ...like in another building :) Except for when the storm troopers had a go. They always make me happy :)
28/2/09 - 1/3/09 Angaston Show
Lovely sunshine, severe burns, followed by rain and a week of rashes.....well there WAS Miniature ponies, and amazing popcorn. John had to rush down to bring me a shade tent, so I now have one if I ever have another stall in an outside event. All in all, I think I loved going camping for the first time in a while, but Angaston Show probably isn't my market. I spent the last of my earnings on a few bottles of mead at Chateau Dorien on the way home :)
